Seaglow Engages with latest EU Workshop on Energy Transition in Fisheries and Aquaculture
As part of the ongoing work of the Energy Transition Partnership—which Seaglow has been closely engaged with from the outset—Seaglow followed the European Commission workshop “Achieving energy efficiency in Fisheries: Towards a common understanding of the energy audit”, organised by DG MARE on 16 April 2026.
The event brought together policymakers, industry representatives, researchers, and stakeholders to address key challenges and opportunities linked to decarbonising the fisheries and aquaculture sector. Discussions focused on improving energy efficiency, advancing sustainable practices, and fostering a shared understanding of tools such as energy audits, which are essential for guiding the sector’s transition.
This discussion builds on a recently published Study on greenhouse gas emission (GHG) reduction costs, scenarios and pathways for EU fisheries to achieve net zero by 2050. The study outlines cost-effective and technologically feasible strategies to significantly reduce emissions, with clear milestones for 2030, 2040, and 2050. Its findings are expected to directly inform the European Commission’s forthcoming Roadmap for the energy transition of fisheries and aquaculture.
For Seaglow, this represents an important moment to both follow and contribute to discussions that will shape future policy frameworks. Ensuring that these frameworks are aligned with the operational realities of the sector—particularly the needs of small-scale fisheries—is essential for a fair and effective transition. By engaging with these initiatives, Seaglow continues to support the development of practical, scalable solutions that contribute to a sustainable and resilient blue economy.
