Mission-driven projects and initiatives
Seaglow is part of a broader network of research and innovation
REFEST is a 3-year EU project with 14 partners from 10 countries, aiming to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by up to 40% in small fishing vessels. The project develops scalable, easy-to-install retrofitting solutions such as battery propulsion, solar power, improved hull design, and digital monitoring systems. All technologies are designed to be sustainable, cost-effective, and ready for wide adoption, with full consideration of environmental impacts and end-user needs.
H2-SEAS initiative is an Innovation Action targeting the overarching objectives of the topic HORIZON-MISS-2023-OCEAN-01-05. The initiative proposes a novel, fully integrated hydrogen-electric fishing vessel to accelerate a sustainable and accessible transition to clean and efficient power for small-scale fishing fleets. Based on hydrogen fuel cell technology, the prototype will demonstrate increased energy efficiency and an environmentally friendly solution for the marine environment: zero emissions and low sound pollution.
NEMOSHIP is a Horizon Europe project which started in 2023 and has a 4 years duration. The ambition of NEMOSHIP is to develop, test, demonstrate new innovative technologies, methodologies and guidelines to better optimise large electric battery power technology within hybrid and fully electrical ships.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation programme under grant agreement No 101096324
Roboat is a spin-out from a joint research project between MIT and AMS Institute (Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Metropolitan Solutions). The company develops automation systems for inland waterway operators that boost safety and efficiency of passenger and logistic transport, while reducing operational costs. Unlike current navigation systems, Roboat systems use LiDAR sensors for a real-time and accurate view of the surroundings, specifically designed for the unique challenges of inland waterways.
The Energy Transition Partnership (ETP) is a collaborative platform designed to accelerate the energy transition in the EU fisheries and aquaculture sector. Launched by the European Commission in 2023, the ETP tackles technical, financial, and regulatory barriers by bringing together stakeholders to create practical, actionable solutions.
